Oldest Family-Owned Business in North Carolina Celebrates Anniversary
RALEIGH, N.C. (July 25, 2016) – Kannon’s Clothing is celebrating 100 years of continuous service with festivities from now until the end of the year. Founded in 1916 in Wendell, Kannon’s is one of the oldest family-owned clothing stores in the U.S. and the oldest in North Carolina.
Isaac George Kannon immigrated to America in 1905 from Lebanon to provide his family with a better life. He first peddled quality goods in a sack he carried on his back throughout eastern Wake County, later moving up to selling from a horse-and-buggy and finally, opening Kannon’s retail store in 1916 in Wendell.
Today Kannon’s combines the best in high-quality apparel with impeccable, individualized customer service. Kannon’s award-winning customer service has earned customer loyalty from throughout North Carolina and out of state for generations. It continues now with third-generation family leadership at both men’s and women’s store locations in Raleigh’s Cameron Village.
Both the men’s and women’s stores will be offering special vendor giveaways, sharing pictures and memories throughout the years, displaying store memorabilia dating back to 1916 and more to celebrate the milestone. Fans of the company are encouraged to share their pictures and memories of Kannon’s on the company’s Facebook page, using the hashtag #Kannons100. The festivities will culminate in a three-day open house celebration Oct. 20-22, featuring live music, food and drinks. More details will be provided closer to the event date.
“We’re so fortunate to be here 100 years after our grandfather started this company,” said George Knuckley, president of Kannon’s and part of the third-generation family that runs the business today.
“The support we’ve received from people across the state and beyond has been tremendous from the beginning. Our customers are like family to us and we can’t thank them enough for helping us get to 100 years,” said Knuckley.
Kannon’s women store’s recently moved to Cameron Village following the successful relocation of the Kannon’s men’s store to the shopping center in 2012.
“We’re thrilled to be able to celebrate our 100th anniversary this year with all of our amazing and loyal customers,” said Joe Ann Wright, who along with her brother, George Knuckley, and sisters Boo Jefferson and Mary Kathryn Phillips, manage the business. “Our new store serves as a great marker of our successful past and our bright future to come.”
RALEIGH, N.C. (March 23, 2016) – Kannon’s Clothing announced today that its women’s store is officially open in Raleigh’s Cameron Village Shopping Center. The store moved to Raleigh from its longtime location in Wendell.
The new store is located at 2015 Cameron St. at the corner of Cameron Street and Woodburn Road, next to Great Outdoor Provision Company.
The new location places one of North Carolina’s oldest family-owned, upscale women’s clothing stores in a vibrant shopping region and introduces more shoppers to Kannon’s sophisticated women’s apparel and well-known personalized shopping experience.
“Kannon’s is so fortunate to have loyal customers who come to shop with us from throughout North Carolina and from out of state,” said George Knuckley, president of Kannon’s and part of the third-generation family that runs the business today. Knuckley and his sisters followed in the footsteps of their grandfather Isaac George Kannon who founded the retail business in Wendell in 1916.
“We look forward to continuing to serve these customers and friends from the new Raleigh location with the same friendly, warm and individualized service they’ve come to expect for decades,” said Knuckley.
